I'm Imani - an Afro-Indigenous, Conscious and Creative soul born in Nova Scotia, Canada. I am a performance artist, vocalist and storyteller who specializes in bridging culture, the arts and healing modalities to create life-changing transformational experiences for my clients. I am also a Certified Trainer & Facilitator who can customize and coordinate workshops for your initiative.

Imani Monetta James is an Afro-Indigenous interdisciplinary artist, facilitator, and cultural storyteller born in Nova Scotia, Canada. Her work bridges African diasporic history, visual art, performance, and wellness-centered education to create meaningful, transformative learning experiences across generations.
Imani’s formal training began at the High School of Performing Arts, where she majored in Visual Art, and continued at university with studies in Communication Design and Media Studies. For over 30 years, she has worked creatively across visual art, Afrofuturist design, fashion and textile art, set design, performance, storytelling, and arts-based healing practices. Her visual work often incorporates African symbolism, pattern, fabric, and ancestral themes, using art as a tool for identity, reflection, and restoration.
As a performance artist, vocalist, and storyteller, Imani brings history to life through voice, movement, narrative, and participatory engagement. Her work has been presented in schools, community organizations, cultural institutions, and nonprofit initiatives, supporting programs focused on Black history, cultural diversity, wellness, mental health, and storytelling.
Imani is also a Certified Coach Professional, Career Counsellor, Certified Trainer & Facilitator, and Reiki Practitioner. She custom-designs workshops for children, youth, adults, and seniors, adapting content to be age-appropriate, accessible, and culturally affirming. Her facilitation style is warm, grounded, and engaging, with a strong emphasis on respect, inclusion, and lived experience.
Her work is informed by Afro-Indigenous worldviews, leadership development, wellness education, and creative practice, offering participants opportunities to learn, express, and connect through the arts.
