About Imani

Through rites of passage at the age of 13, Monetta James was given her African name IMANI which means faith. As one of the principles of the NGUZO SABA , Imani valued her name and chose to represent it in her work as an Afro-Indigenous Interdisciplinary Artist, Spoken Word Artist and Wisdom Keeper. She is also a Certified Facilitator, Trainer and Life Coach. Her craft and creative coaching process serves as a multi-sensory, artistic and therapeutic channel for creating safe spaces to cultivate harmony in diversity. Imani intuitively draws from her lifelong training in various art forms and traditional Afro-Indigenous practices to offer uniquely designed workshops, performances, and retreats. Her work has been used in local nonprofit and small business creative projects related to mindfulness, empowerment, cultural diversity, mental health and storytelling to facilitate transcendental and visionary experiences. She is also a committed activist and consultant in Diversity, Equity & Inclusion serving online and in-person in the GTA and Peel Region. She has partnered with schools,  community groups and organizations throughout Canada and the US—all committed to cultivating cultural diversity in community. .

them to have a greater appreciation for the art
